Oyakodon is one of my favorite Japanese recipe and I have tried it multiple times in an authentic Japanese restaurants in the States and Japan. Compared to those recipes provided by native Japanese home cooks on allrecipes.jp this is a pretty nice recipe. Classic soul food of Japan, the literal translation of Oyakodon (親子丼) means "parent-and-child rice bowl." Chicken (as in parent), egg (as in child), and onions are simmered together in a dashi and soy sauce-based broth then served on top of steamed rice. Oyakodon (親子丼), literally "parent-and-child donburi", is a donburi, or Japanese rice bowl dish, in which chicken, egg, sliced scallion (or sometimes regular onions), and other ingredients are all simmered together in a kind of soup that is made with soy sauce and stock, and then served on top of a large bowl of rice.

The ingredients needed to make Oyako-don:
  1. Prepare 2 eggs
  2. Get 1 onion(small)
  3. Prepare 250 g Chicken thigh

  6. Make ready 1 tablespoon hondashi(Powder,japanese soup stock)
  7. Get 1 tablespoon sake(if you had it)
  8. Make ready 500 ml water

  10. Make ready 2 bowls cooked rice

This is a popular (at least in Hawaii) Japanese dish which is often served at restaurants in individual bowls. Oyako means mother and child, hence the main ingredients, chicken and eggs. Oyakodon is chicken and egg in seasoned broth over rice in a bowl. Oyako means parents and children, like chicken and egg, and don (donburi) means a bowl.

Instructions to make Oyako-don:
  1. First, slice up the onion and chicken cut into cubes.Pour water, hondashi and sake in a pot.Cook it on medium heat. when the pot boils,add the onion and chicken and sugar.Heat until meat is cooked.It is delicious even if you simmered onions.
  2. Then,add soy sauce to the pot and heat for 5 minutes.I don't recommend putting soy sauce from the beginning.(Please taste it and adjust the amount of soy sauce.)
  3. Heat the pan over medium heat.Scoop up soup and ingredients from the pot.And put in a frying pan.Beat an egg in a bowl.Pour egg evenly on surface to the frying pan.Put the lid until the egg is heated.
  4. It is like this.And put it on rice.
  5. It's ready to eat!(Put on a black pepper.)
